Bands included Gun Outfit, Total Abuse, KIT, Infinite Body, Best Coast, Abe Vigoda, and No Age. This was also the toughest shoot for me. There was absolutely NO lighting at all, save for a half-working Miller Light neon sign, and a wall of TVs about 50 feet away. Not. Good. Half the time, I was shooting on manual focus. Try that when you have a singer jumping around like she has ants in her pants (yes you, KIT!). Thank goodness for high ISO and f/1.2! This is my last post on SXSW 2010. But hearing a concert here was amazing. The bands included: Matt Pryor, The Candle Thieves, Lissie, Jakob Dylan, Black Prairie, and The Low Anthem. The theme of this showcase was folk and Americana, and the setting was perfect. The acoustics of St. David’s were outstanding, and hearing someone like Lissie belt out her powerful songs still gives me shivers. The Candle Thieves were a lot of fun because they incorporated a lot of props and toy instruments. And of course, Jakob Dylan. Everyone was here to see him, and he definitely delivered. I think this concert was a highlight of the entire SXSW for me, because it was A)indoors and B)had a seated audience that wasn’t fighting me for a good position.

I did get some time off (but of course I still kept my camera by my side). I had fun wandering around and catching up with friends. Some of the bands I managed to capture included: Rural Alberta Advantage, Dirty Sweet, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and the now legendary The Black Keys.

Fortunately the word “google” has entered the lexicon in such a way so as not to sound like some bizarre euphemism for something that might be considered illegal in the state of Texas. And I realized, as I googled, that it’s been 6 months since I worked SXSW over with my camera. For all of you out-of-towners reading my blog, SXSW stands for South-by-Southwest. It’s a two week festival in Austin, Texas, celebrating all that is film, interactive, and music, with the focus on the up-and-coming. I was there, with my camera. The reason I realized this is because some of my work is now making its way through the official website. And this has made me realize that I need to get off my butt and post these amazing pictures, and like soon. So prepare yourselves for a cosmic shift in focus from all the beautiful brides and grooms to some rockin’ bands and awesome scenes. There’s more to come…much much more!
